Project Description (Developing a Multi-site Platform for a Swiss Clinic Network)

Ärztezentren Deutschschweiz is a large network of medical centers in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. Each clinic has its own focus: dentistry, surgery, family medicine. Disparate websites, inconsistent quality, and zero centralized content management—all while the network continues to expand.

The Goal: Unify all locations under a single digital brand while preserving each clinic's individuality. Patients should see a fast, locally relevant website for their clinic—doctors, services, schedules, open positions, and contacts. The client's content team needs to manage all of this from a single dashboard—without developers and without code.

The Swiss medical market is extremely demanding. Patients expect flawless service—and the same standard from digital products. A clinic's website often becomes the deciding factor. Slow or outdated sites lose patients. That's why loading speed, data accuracy, and a seamless user experience are mandatory requirements.

We designed a multi-tenant architecture with a master template and dynamic customization. The main portal and each satellite site are powered by a single Strapi backend, while the Next.js frontend adapts the template to the specific clinic's data. Launching a new clinic is a matter of content configuration, not a new development budget. The classic alternative—developing each site as a separate project—would mean that with every new location, the network pays again for development, layout, testing, and deployment. Our architecture broke this economic model once and for all.

A distinct part of the solution was the career functionality. Clinics in Switzerland compete fiercely for specialists, so each site features its own vacancy section with open positions, team stories, and corporate culture. Candidates see a real place of work—not just a network, but people and values. Contact forms are tied to specific locations.

A Single Backend for 14+ Clinics with Diverse Specializations: The hardest challenge of the project wasn't the individual sites, but their shared foundation. Each clinic has its own staff and services, but all sites utilize shared data from a single backend. The data model in Strapi is universal yet flexible: each clinic's template automatically adapts. Change a specialization in Strapi—the site updates instantly. Data loads fast and meets strict Swiss UX and SEO standards.

Tech Stack

Next.js · React · TypeScript · Strapi (Headless CMS) · HTML5 · CSS3/SCSS · Google Cloud · Docker · CI/CD

Key Integrations

  • Headless CMS Strapi as the single content core.
  • Local Swiss services for patients.
  • Google Cloud and client's own hosting.
  • Automated CI/CD for new websites.
  • Clinic contact forms for direct patient inquiries.

Key Features (What's Inside)

  1. Entire Network from One Panel: Content managers manage all 14+ clinics from a single Strapi dashboard: specializations, doctors, schedules, contacts. Changes appear instantly on the required site.
  2. Career Section on Every Site: Each clinic publishes open vacancies along with information about their approach and staff. The hiring section significantly simplified medical hiring in regional locations.
  3. Speed & Core Web Vitals: Next.js SSR/SSG ensures instant loading and up-to-date data. Perfect Core Web Vitals are the foundation of SEO visibility in a competitive medical market.
  4. Smooth Visuals Everywhere: The sites are rich in images and animations. We optimized them so the interface remains smooth and responsive on desktop, mobile, and tablets.
  5. Scaling Without Development Budget: Adding a 15th or 30th clinic no longer requires developers. A new site is deployed via content configuration in Strapi. Network expansion is no longer a development expense.

The Challenge: How We Built the Network on a Single Backend

The Problem:

  • Each clinic has a distinct medical profile, staff, and services, but the infrastructure must be shared.
  • The classic "one site = one project" approach meant rising costs and weeks for every launch.
  • Strict Swiss requirements for speed, UX, and SEO for every network site.

Our Solution:

  • Multi-tenant architecture: main portal and subsites powered by shared data from a single Strapi backend.
  • Adaptive templates: each site automatically configures itself to local data.
  • Implemented a unified design system in a reusable Next.js UI component library.
  • CI/CD: new clinics go live in hours, no code required.

Business Outcomes (What the Client Received)

  • Network Under Control: Main portal + ~14 live clinic sites on a single platform. Manage all content from one dashboard.
  • More Patients & Candidates: Contact forms increased patient inquiries, while career sections streamlined specialist recruitment.
  • Optimized Marketing Budget: Speed and flexibility reduced marketing expenses; new locations launch without development costs.

The project transitioned into the SLA support stage—and it's a working process, not a formality. We actively maintain the platform, monitor performance, eliminate bottlenecks, and implement requested enhancements: from new content blocks to expanding individual clinic features. For the client, this means predictability: the network grows, the sites stay relevant, and the technical side is our responsibility.
