A Support Portal From the NGO “Pryncyp”. When a Project Is Technically and Morally Challenging

Since 2014, and especially since 2022, the number of people in Ukraine participating in combat operations against the occupiers has been constantly increasing. Most of them return to normal life, unfortunately not by choice, but as a result of injuries, concussions, or traumatic amputations. They have invested their health, and often their lives, in the safety of the nation, and now they need help with social integration, recovery, and more. The NGO “Pryncyp” was created precisely for this purpose.

We have already worked on several projects for the organization. Now we’d like to share our experience in creating a new platform designed specifically for medical assistance consultations for male and female veterans.

Features of the Medical Services Portal for Male and Female Veterans

The platform is intended to provide thematic information to military personnel in need of medical assistance. The website is adapted for all categories of visitors, offering a truly inclusive experience for those who are unable to use standard interfaces, color schemes, and so on.

The portal contains information about diseases, injuries, support and treatment programs, and rehabilitation. It also publishes brochures and catalogs that include data specifically useful for veterans. In addition, the platform serves as a navigator for the legal aspects of treatment. Therefore, those who need it can rely on clear algorithms, instructions, and even find the contact numbers of clinics, hospitals, and the National Health Service of Ukraine.

Since this was far from the first experience of BuildApps working with the NGO “Pryncyp,” the task was quite typical — though somewhat more complex this time due to the specific nature of the platform’s structure. We will now tell you more about these features.

A Platform for Those Who Need Support

Overall, the order appeared standard:

Creating a website in the usual style.

  • Connecting a simple yet functional administrative panel.
  • Implementing convenient navigation and overall UI/UX.
  • Integrating quick access to inclusivity settings.

Seems like nothing complicated, right? However, the actual implementation turned out to be quite interesting, especially in the context of adapting the design and interface for people with visual impairments. But more on that later.

When You Work Motivated by the Result

The technical implementation of the website-portal consisted of several parts. Since we had already developed the general style, there was no need to redesign. Instead, we had to work on the following aspects:

  • Integration of the administrative panel. We chose Strapi as one of the simplest options for independent content management on the website.
  • The frontend was developed using React, specifically on Next.js. Everything was quite standard here.

The challenge lay precisely in adapting the interface and design for people with visual impairments. To reach the widest possible audience, we conducted a series of tests to ensure that the controls are visible, responsive, and provide an adequate UI/UX for the target users. As a result, we settled on scaling options placed in the site header and a black-and-white display mode, which can also be enabled there.

Summary

The result of the collaboration was an adaptive platform that provides male and female veterans with comprehensive information about the medical services they are interested in. No innovative tools or algorithms — just a valuable resource for those who need help. Monetization or traffic conversion? The portal was created for something entirely different. In fact, it fulfills the tasks it was designed for, which means it can be considered a successful project.
