Exam Solutions: When AI Transforms from Assistant to Teacher

STEM subjects have always been challenging for students, especially in online learning environments. The Exam Solutions platform powered by GPT from BuildApps addresses this issue by helping students prepare for GCSE and A-level exams.

Here, there are no conventional teachers or standard lessons. The portal personalizes the learning process for each student, explains errors, and adjusts difficulty levels based on individual progress.

A Groundbreaking Idea Needing Realization

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of educational platforms, some even AI-powered. However, few offer adequate interactivity and engagement in the learning process. Most similar solutions do not analyze students' mistakes, provide comprehensive analytics, or truly teach.

In response, we set out to remedy this by developing a platform that supports students in exam preparation, helps reinforce learned material, and builds knowledge effectively.

The Creative Task

The platform’s concept didn’t just hint, it shouted that AI should be its core. Thus, the project tasks were built around this, including:

  • Building a custom LLM core.
  • Training it to emulate teacher behavior.
  • Programming quick commands.
  • Developing a compatible and user-friendly interface.
  • Enabling users to communicate directly with the AI mentor.
  • Adding valuable educational materials.
  • Focusing specifically on mathematics.

Said and done. We charted a release roadmap and established the ChatGPT core, which we trained accordingly. Yes, we learned alongside it.

And a No Less Creative Implementation

This platform differs significantly from typical projects, so traditional development methods were not widely applicable. While we created the GUI based on MAUI, wrote modules, and added libraries, the primary efforts focused on backend and the LLM core.

Here’s what we accomplished for this project:

  • Designed the web portal, inspired by top-class representatives and based on the platform’s initial concept.
  • Trained a custom ChatGPT core (connected via OpenAI API).
  • Added over a hundred situational and thematic prompts for quick access to key functions.

And that’s far from all. Most of our work focused on developing our AI-based bot:

  • Enhanced the AI’s persona to communicate in a teacher-like manner. 
  • Enabled error explanation requests, meaning the platform doesn’t simply say “correct” or “incorrect,” but analyzes and explains where the issue lies and how to resolve it.
  • Implemented adaptive exercises, where AI evaluates students personally and adjusts test difficulty according to their performance.

In this way, we brought to life yet another project that is equally effective in terms of both utility and monetization potential.

With Future Potential to Spare

Without false modesty, we can say: the platform met students' expectations and has already gathered an audience of over 25,000 users. No wonder — it prepares students for GCSE and A-level math exams, offering maximum interactivity and learning with reinforcement and error analysis.

Currently, the portal features over 11,000 lessons, around 4,000 video materials, and full interaction with the AI mentor. Have we achieved our goal? Absolutely, but only at this current stage.

Next, the platform will expand, introducing new areas of study with dedicated AI mentors.
