Socialization and Entertainment with Pet Friends

If you want to make your pets famous, try the Pet Friends app. This is one of BuildApps' latest projects, designed not only to socialize pets, but also to offer a range of useful features.

Are your pets active and sociable? Well, it’s the perfect time to create their own profile, help them find friends, and maybe even the love of their life. Okay, that last part was a joke — but our project, Pet Friends, is all about pet socialization.

The platform’s concept is to provide pet owners with a convenient tool to share updates about their pets’ lives, connect with owners of similar breeds, discover pet-friendly spots, and much more.

Since this project is far from typical, its implementation required a creative approach. We identified several key objectives:

• Develop a platform with a modern and user-friendly interface.
• Add features related to activity tracking, service discovery, and finding pet-friendly spots.
• Integrate communication elements, including options for sharing contacts with other pet owners.
• Incorporate a social component with profiles, posts, and comments.
• Connect an LLM to assist pet owners.

Of course, we accomplished these tasks with flying colors and are now working on expanding functionality, including integrations with smart devices such as GPS tracker collars and more.

The project is being developed using Flutter for the front end, while Nest.js powers the back end. Currently, the product is fully operational and offers the following features:

• A system for profiles and posts with comments.
• GPS tracking with the ability to share coordinates with friends.
• An AI-powered knowledge base.
• An interactive map marking walking areas, specialized stores, services, clinics, and more.
• Event descriptions and likes.
• Smooth animations for all app interactions.

Sounds impressive, doesn’t it? However, the development process was not without its challenges, including:

• A massive volume of information about animal breeds and their characteristics.
• An initial rejection from the App Store, requiring improvements to security algorithms.
• Training the LLM to handle highly specific tasks, such as providing pet care and dietary advice.

Addressing these challenges required considerable effort. For example, overcoming App Store censorship involved creating robust algorithms to filter NSFW content, inappropriate language, and adding features to moderate comments, posts, and profiles. In the end, we successfully launched the app on the App Store and are now focused on further upgrades and enhancements.

The product is fully operational, published on marketplaces, and already receiving likes from pet owners. However, we still have a number of ideas that we plan to implement in the near future.

In particular, we will add monetization options through features like stories and advertisements. Regarding the latter, pet store owners, veterinary clinics, and services such as grooming will gain access to a highly targeted audience and will be able to sell products and services.
